Research

A library with books on shelves.

SMiRA supports and conducts research into Selective Mutism in the following ways:

  • Through our own SMiRA research projects
  • An approval process for students and researchers to perform their own research via our social media channels
  • SMiRA proposed research ideas for consideration
  • An extensive Bibliography of Selective Mutism research

SMiRA research projects

SMiRA conducts its own research and member surveys from time to time. For more details on these projects, click on the link below:

SMiRA Research & Surveys

Approval process for research via our social media channel

Our Facebook group has over 28k members and is a powerful way to reach individuals with Selective Mutism, their families and carers, and associated professionals such as teachers and therapists.

With SMiRA's approval, researchers may request participation from our Facebook membership.

Before SMIRA allows people to request participants for research projects, the Committee need to see evidence of your proposal, consent forms, test instruments, questionnaire and Ethical Approval.

Once these have been reviewed and if we agree to support the request, we will inform you.

Researchers are requested to contact Victoria Roe at SMiRA via the Contact Page
